Apple products crash over bug linked to Telegu script

Apple is urgently trying to fix a bug in its latest software update which crashes applications if a letter from the south Indian language Telegu is presented.

Receiving a message which contains a Telegu letter causes apps such as Gmail and Instagram to crash and restart.

Around 80 million people around the globe speak Telegu, with most speakers being from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Devices that crash and go into a bootloop may need to be wiped and restored.

“While iOS 11.3 fixes the problems, Apple said it is planning to release an iOS 11 update soon that will address the crashes before the iOS 11.3 release in the spring,” The Verge reported yesterday.

Apple has announced the glitch will be fixed as soon as possible.
