Canadian SMEs to be encouraged to innovate

It was recently announced that the not-for-profit organization Mitacs is aiming to help small and medium (SMEs) in Canada solve business challenges and innovate through research solutions from Canadian academic institutions.

Indeed, the company partners with 78 universities, 77 colleges, CEGEPs, and polytechnics across Canada, so as to offer tools, connections, and solutions to small businesses. As a result of the pandemic, the Business Strategy Internship Program was created in order to support businesses, not-for-profit, hospital, and municipal innovation in all sectors across the country.

The organization is made of 90 business development experts nationwide that will be guiding SMEs through the process and giving them access to the talent and tools they need to recover from the pandemic and succeed. Since the start of the pandemic, more than 2,000 businesses have partnered with Mitacs for the first time and the total value of all industry-related innovation projects funded through its programs is around $1 billion.
