Chip engineer Jim Keller joins AI Canadia startup

Jim Keller has recently joined AI Canadian silicon start-up, Tenstorrent as its Chief Technology Officer, President, and was appointed a member of its Board of Directors.

The Toronto-based software company was founded in 2016 by chip architect Ljubisa Bajic and is specializing in designing and manufacturing new chip architecture. They are working on creating and designing silicon for machine learning, using a foundry to make the hardware, as well as working with partners to create solutions.

Contrary to many companies in the same area, Tenstorrent is focused on both training and inference. Indeed, it aims on designing the whole stack, the hardware, and software to support machine learning models in the data center to the edge.

The company believes that the shift towards ML-centric software requires a transformation in computational capabilities. The CEO then thinks that Keller’s vision will help them achieve this.

Keller is a microprocessor engineer who is best known for his work as a chip architect at Apple, AMD, and Intel.
