Facebook stops using WhatsApp’s data over upcoming GDPR

In reference to the upcoming GDPR, Facebook has been prevented from making use of UK citizen’s WhatsApp data.

The firm planned to access subsidiary’s records to give better friend suggestions and show more relevant ads.

However, the UK’s information commissioner said this would be a breach of existing data protection laws and the upcoming GDPR.

Until the firm is compliant with the new set of rules, the social networking platform has promised not to access information it’s unsure of.

Facebook is also refusing to share its so-called “shadow profile” information which it gathered regarding people via friends and acquaintances.
