Chinese mobile giant Huawei is working fast to get its new operating system launched in the wake of US sanctions and Google’s plan to bar its OS and apps from Huawei’s next wave of mobile devices.

Huawei, the world’s second-biggest phone maker, are in the process of rapidly trademarking the new OS, reportedly calling it Hongmeng, across the world and will soon be shipping 1 million test devices in order to establish itself as a viable global player.

The Trump administration blacklisted Huawei over fears its devices could act as a portal for Chinese surveillance. The blacklisting will require US companies to ask the government’s permission before doing business with Huawei.

In response to Google’s threat, Huawei has fast-tracked its own operating system, and is planning for a full release by early 2020.

Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer division, told CNBC that: “We are still committed to Microsoft Windows and Google Android. But if we cannot use that, Huawei will prepare the plan B to use our own OS.”
