LG to license its webOS software to TV brands

LG recently announced that it will license its webOS software to other TV brands.

Indeed, some TV brands such as RCA, Ayonz, and Konka have already signed on. This initiative will give an incredible opportunity to reshape the TV business in terms of technology and content providers, as well as grow LG’s presence and prominence in the global home entertainment market.

By licensing its platform to other TV brands, LG follows the steps of Roku and Amazon, which have previously joined with third parties to release Roku TVs and Fire TV Edition TVs, respectively. Hence, by doing so, LG is aiming to have control over the TV software experience across more devices as well as get more advertising revenue.

This initiative gives the company access to more user data that might help to make improvements to webOS.
