Ontario transit agency Metrolinx target of cyberattack

Ontario transit agency, Metrolinx, has been discovered to have been the target of a cyberattack, believed to have originated in North Korea and routed through Russia, according to an unnamed source.

No personal information was compromised and the software systems that operate its trains and buses were believed to have not been affected.

Senior Manager at Metrolinx, Anne Marie Aikins, said the attack took place, but that it did not result in any breach in privacy and did not compromise any safety systems.

Metrolinx’ security team, working with local penetration experts, discovered the intrusion over a week ago.

“The incident is over, but the investigation of it and the action that we take continues to ensure we continue to protect all of our systems,” said Aikins.
