TikTok accused have used AI software to track and store users’ data

The social media TikTok recently agreed to pay £66m in order to settle a lawsuit for which it was accused of using artificial intelligence (AI) to track and store users’ data.

Indeed, it was reported that the company would have breached laws by using software to recognize facial features in user videos as well as algorithms to identify age, gender, and ethnicity. The user data was allegedly collected for ad targeting and apparently sent to China.

The company denied the accusations but wants to avoid a court case. Besides, TikTok also agreed to add if it will be collecting users’ biometric information or GPS data, and if it will store or transmit user data outside the US in its privacy policy.

It would seem that the company is trying to make the case go away, showing that it didn’t believe it could win.
