Apple has unveiled plans to build a second billion-dollar headquarter in Austin, Texas, which will be worth as much as $1.6bn (£1bn) when finished, according to a recent press release.

The new Apple headquarters will bring at least 5000 high-paying jobs, with the capacity for up to 15,000. Apple said that new roles would include engineering, research and development, and sales.

Their new 133-acre headquarters will be powered by 100% renewable energy and will feature 50 acres of exterior space.

Apple headquarters – more jobs by 2023

In addition to the development of the new Apple headquarters, plans were announced to expand Apple’s presence in Seattle, San Diego and Culver city over the next three years.

Apple said it added 6,000 jobs in 2018 and currently employs 90,000 people across all 50 states in the US.

Apple said their expansion will create a further 20,000 jobs in the US by 2023. Apple also pledged to create more jobs in New York, Boston, Boulder, Colorado, Portland, and Oregon.

The company also confirmed that it plans to invest $10bn (£7.9bn) in US data centres over the next five years, including $4.5bn (£3.5bn) this year and next year.

Tariff war between the US and China

Apple’s expansion comes during an ongoing tariff war between the US and China.

In November, President Donald Trump suggested via Twitter that Apple should move its manufacturing plants to America as a way to avoid tariffs in the trade dispute between the US and China.
