Following Cambridge Analytica accessing Facebook’s “private data”, the social media company is securing and updating its third-party policies.
Facebook has decided that more policy and product changes need to be implemented, to protect the privacy of its users.
The changes it is currently working on includes provisions around the transfer of data outside the Facebook app, the use of service providers, data processing by technology partners and how the firm monitors compliance with its own terms.
The firm’s application programming interfaces (APIs) have been highly criticised, so the company has decided it no longer wants to work with third-party app developers – this includes not allowing apps to RSVP to third-party events, and two analytic tools will no longer offer app event metrics.Â
Third-party apps will also no longer have the ability to publish posts to Facebook via the Facebook Login API, and won’t be able to access the Graph API where they can usually access the name and bio of users commenting on posts.
