Google parent company Alaphabet is slowly reducing its new self-driving car developed by Waymo to the point of no production after travelling million miles in road tests.
In hope for the firm to introduce self-driving cars to people quickly, Waymo is focusing on incorporating its technology into other vehicles, such as a fleet of 600 Chrysler Pacifica, instead of building on its own.
The Lead Industrial Designer for Waymo YooJung Ahn said: “By designing and building a truly self-driving vehicle from scratch, we were able to crack some of the earliest self-driving puzzles, where to place the sensors, how to integrate the computer, what controls passengers need in a car that drives itself.”
Unlike Waymo that travels at 25mph, the Chrysler Pacifica minivans can travel at full speed.
