On November 27th, a top nuclear scientist with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a branch of Iran’s military services, was assassinated by an AI-powered machine gun.
Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was traveling in a convoy outside of Tehran when a Nissan pickup truck with a mounted machine gun found the convoy and started firing. The truck then exploded.
Yet, no hitman was present when the scientist was attacked, according to IRGC.
The machine gun was equipped with a ‘satellite-controlled smart system’, which was fired 13 times during the attack. The smart system controlling the machine gun apparently used artificial intelligence and was aiming for Fakhrizadeh.
It would appear that the attack was done entirely remotely, thus meaning that the pickup truck was either remote-controlled by a human or driven autonomously by AI.
Hence, this would suggest that a terrorist organization or foreign government made a robot using a Nissan truck and a machine gun, then used satellite images to track, identify, and recognize Fakhrizadeh.
This would be the first time that a civilian vehicle was made into a killer robot and used entirely autonomously.
However, we do not know yet who was behind the attack.
