‘Cyber attackers seek weak spots’, says report

Alert Logic released its 2017 Cloud Security Report revealing that more than 2 million security incidents captured in Alert Logic intrusion detection systems found web application attacks, with 85% of all its customers affected by web application attacks.

The data showed that 25% of total web application attacks targeted Joomla (an open source platform), followed by WordPress (a publishing platform) with 10%, and Magento (an e-commerce platform) with 7%.

Customers running applications on public cloud platforms experienced 405 security incidents over the report period, and on-premises customers experienced a 51% higher rate of security incident escalations.

The report also found that 82% of customer deployments analyse hosted workloads in the cloud.

Misha Govshteyn, senior vice president of Technical and Product Marketing, said: “We focused our analysis on incident types and the workloads and environments most at risk.

“Cyber attackers continue to seek the weakest spots in network defences and businesses need to understand how they are refocusing to take advantage of the changing attack landscape.”

The findings are based over an 18-month period, studied by more than 3,800 Alert Logic cloud, on-premises and hybrid cloud customers.
