OnePlus’s emergency service glitch

OnePlus has admitted its device glitch, preventing consumers from calling emergency services on its One Plus 5 phone.

Reddit highlighted a customer showing their OnePlus 5 phone restarting when calling 911.
According to other contributors, 999 in the UK and 112 in Europe were also affected by the glitch.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer said it would resolve the problem by distributing a software update.

OnePlus 5 user, Seattle Horn, said to the BBC: “I had to dial 911 on my OnePlus 5 yesterday because of seeing a building on fire a few blocks away, but both times I tried to use my phone it rebooted on me.”

Other customers said that the glitch could “cost lives”, causing them to return their phones to the company.

“We have been in touch with customers and have tested a software update that has resolved the issue. We will be rolling out the software update shortly,” said OnePlus in a statement.

Several consumers also said that they had experienced the same issue before.
