Toronto hospital to be targeted by ransomware

It was recently found out that Toronto hospital has been hit by ransomware.

Toronto hospital, which is one of the biggest and first digital hospitals in the country, is the latest victim of ransomware attacks that targeted many Canadian organizations. It was indeed reported that around 2 am on Monday morning, the hospital suffered a ‘zero-day ransomware of a new malware variant’.

Following this, the hospital’s IT network was shut down, including the patient health records system. Hence, the hospital stated that encryption wouldn’t be an issue and no confidential information was released. However, it will have to deal with some corrupt files.

In order to assess the damage and recover the corrupted files, the IT department has been working with an external recovery firm. The hospital will bring back all of its systems online in a staggered approach.
