What to look forward to at The Software Testing Conference NORTH

I’m pleased to say that The Software Testing Conference NORTH is coming to The Royal York Hotel, York this September. Designed as an extension of the National Software Testing Conference, which takes place in London each May, this northern counterpart brings the best presentations and speakers from across the UK to discuss on all matters software testing and QA.

The two-day programme will see speakers from a range of different sectors, covering everything from the future of testing; test management culture; UX; BDD; digital transformation to DevOps – there will be something for everyone!

Keynote presentations

Mike Jarred, Senior Manager – Solution Delivery, Financial Conduct Authority. Mike will present on: The Continuous Evolution Of Testing In The FCA. The talk will describe the journey the FCA Test Group has undertaken to provide a modern, efficient and valuable testing service by rethinking its approaches to testing.

The shift to relevant, targeted, testing, & the visualisation of programme wide risk profiles.

The importance of stakeholder engagement & how we track the effectiveness of the Test Group to deliver against stakeholders’ risk appetite.

Collaborating and integrating with application development to improve software engineering approaches, including continuous delivery.

The drivers to changing our Test Governance approach to one of Test Assurance, ensuring an effective, valued, collaborative & supportive coaching led model is operating.

Dan Ashby, Global Head of Software Quality & Testing, AstraZeneca. Dan’s talk is titled: How Ignorant Are We? The presentation will discuss how the relationship between the five orders of ignorance and software testing is much closer than most people realise. Testing isn’t just about checking that software conforms to some explicit, known requirements. Testing is also about exploration and investigating the software and our hypotheses in order to discover and uncover new information. This talk will teach about the five orders of ignorance regarding information and how these orders very closely relate to testing. In this talk, Dan will discuss each layer of the five orders within the context of testing software and he will touch on the key skills and processes that fit within each layer.

Paula Thomsen, Head of Quality Assurance and Tom Berry, Senior Test Manager for Life Finance, Aviva. Paula and Tom will be speaking on: Why Is Diversity More Important Than Ever Within Assurance Disciplines? The presentation considers the role of diversity at a time when technology invades every aspect of our lives and everyone is impacted and the pace of change just keeps getting faster. And how as a technology industry are we ready to handle change within the UK? Are we ready within software testing? Paula and Dan will challenge the audience to consider how they have built up their teams, how they will need to evolve further to meet the industry challenge. Whilst taking into account the increased prevalence of different delivery methods and tooling solutions.
