Wonga on high alert after security breach

UK payday loan firm Wonga have alerted customers to be as vigilant as possible as they face, potentially, the UK’s largest data breach to date.

Data breach affects over a quarter of a million customers

Wonga have warned over a quarter of a million of their customers that their personal data may have been breached during the hack, which the company has stated they are urgently investigating.

According to the loan company, the following data may have been leaked: name, email address, home address, phone number, the last four digits of customers’ card numbers and/or customers account numbers and sort codes. Although, the company has placed emphasis on the fact that no full card details were at risk of being discovered.

The customers potentially affected in the UK totalled 245,000, with 25,000 customers in Poland also potentially affected.

The firm, in a statement, said, “We are working closely with authorities and we are in the process of informing affected customers. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
