Uber ‘may be selling’ self-driving tech to Toyota

Uber is currently in talks with Toyota about the firm installing its self-driving system.

The idea was spoken about after Toyota’s vice president and its head automaker met with Uber’s CEO in Pittsburgh, USA, last week.

“We regularly exchange information about automated driving with Uber and have for some time now,” a spokeswoman for Toyota told Reuters.

AV system developments

In a bid to drive forward the autonomous driving market, Toyota is focusing on introducing its new company called TRI-AD or Toyota Research Group-Advanced Development.

Despite Toyota developing core technologies of its own for self-driving, it has not only laid out plans to use Uber’s technologies, but also China’s Didi Chuxing to help develop vehicles for mobility services.

Uber is also hoping to partner with more automakers to help speed up its AV system developments, according to Tech Crunch.
